Marriage calendar

Marriage calendar

For many years, the marriage calendar has been one of the most commonly used methods of pregnancy prevention. How effective this method is is best demonstrated by the fact, that a good number of women, despite following the marriage calendar, she fell into an unplanned pregnancy.

Marriage calendar - method of operation

The marriage calendar is based on the Ogino-Knaus method, which assumes, that the woman is healthy and menstruating regularly. In this case, the fertile days are around 14 days before your next period is due. Because the ovum may appear two days before or after this calculated date, the fertile period extends to more days. Sperm lifetime is also added to a woman's fertile period. It makes, that the method of the marriage calendar excludes intercourse for a third or even half of the monthly cycle. This is what distinguishes a marriage calendar from contraceptive methods, which enable safe intercourse also during the fertile days.

Marriage calendar - calculations

The length of the menstrual cycle is needed to calculate the fertile period. The number is subtracted from this value 20, and the value obtained is the beginning of fertile days. It is then subtracted from the days of the cycle 11 and thus the last fertile day is calculated. These calculations become problematic, when a woman has irregular cycles, because then there is a lot of risk, that the specific method, i.e. the fertile days calendar, does not correspond to reality.

Additionally, other factors have a significant influence on the reliability of the calculations. Menstrual cycle disturbances may appear as a result of the disease, stress, disturbances in the cycle of the day (e.g.. work at night), drinking more alcohol. That is why it is worth combining the marriage calendar with other methods of determining fertile days, for example, the thermal method or the Billings method. The first method is to measure body temperature daily - during ovulation, body temperature is higher than during infertile days. The Billings method, on the other hand, concerns the observation of cervical mucus, because its abundance and consistency change depending on the phase of the cycle. There are also advantages to counting your fertile days. The marriage calendar is a completely natural method, devoid of any side effects and does not involve any expenses.
